It sure feels like winter now – with our road crews hard at work! It is hard to believe that we are almost to the end of 2022. It has been quite the year.

December is known as a month for giving, and there are many ways we can give to others. Giving doesn’t have to involve money. You can also share your – time and – talents to make the community better.

I want to let you know about some opportunities GIVE and Share With Others that are available this month.

On Saturday, December 10, there is a community food drive in honor of our City Mascot, Mero the Mammoth. Bring non-perishable food items to the Orem Family Fitness Center anytime on December 10th, and you can get into the fitness center for FREE while helping others in need.

Once again, this year, University Place is hosting Light the World Giving Machines. They operate like vending machines but with a twist. The items you select are life-changing humanitarian goods and services for those in need. For example, you can “buy” a textbook, a pair of shoes, or even livestock with your donation. The machines are located next to Dillard’s in the mall.

On Monday, December 19, a community caroling event will be at 6 pm at the Orem Cemetery. The holiday season can be very difficult for those who have lost loved ones. This caroling event is a chance to be uplifted by others and feel the true spirit of Christmas. We invite you to bring a special ornament to hang on the tree in memory of your loved one.

Giving trees can be found in various locations if you want to provide a specific gift to help others. For example, United Way’s Sub for Santa program has a tree at University Place, and Sharon Elementary has one at their school.

I hope you find a way to enjoy the Spirit of Giving during this season. Each of us can bless the lives of those around us – if we try. From the City of Orem, I wish you a Merry Christmas and all the best as we come to the end of 2022. Have a great month!
