May is an incredibly busy month here at the City of Orem. We are working on the next fiscal year budget, putting final touches on Oremfest, kicking off many of our most popular programs such as our Farmers Market and youth sports leagues, as well as many other major projects to improve the city.
In the midst of all this Spring activity, the national appreciation week for our three departments of first responders is also in May. This unique alignment allows us to collectively honor and celebrate our Fire, Police, and Public Works departments for their around-the-clock service to our community. Let’s take a moment to extend our gratitude and recognize the crucial roles they play in our daily lives.
Orem Fire Department
First, we extend our thanks to the outstanding members of our Fire Department. These firefighters and EMTs stand ready to respond at a moment’s notice, not only to fight fires but to handle any emergency with precision and resilience. Their bravery in the face of danger is nothing short of heroic. They sacrifice their own safety to ensure the safety of others. They are committed to being the best, and we salute them for their service.
Orem Police Department
Next, to our excellent Police Department, we extend our sincerest gratitude. Police work is dangerous, challenging, and often highly scrutinized, yet our officers approach their duties with integrity, commitment, and, most of all, compassion. Our police department is a leader in the field of community policing, setting the bar in the areas of mental health and forging community relations. They have our support, thanks, and respect for the countless good things they do to protect and build up our city.
Orem Public Works
Many don’t think of Public Works when they think of first responders but let me assure you that the men and women of the Orem Public Works Department deserve the title. If a water line bursts in the middle of the night, the crews will be there. If a natural disaster strikes, the crews will be there. Nothing stops them from getting the job done. These often unsung heroes work tirelessly all day and through the night to keep our city running smoothly. Their efforts are crucial to our daily lives, from managing waste to ensuring that clean water comes out of your tap each morning. We celebrate their hard work and contributions to our community.
Each department—Police, Fire, and Public Works—plays a fundamental role in our city’s safety, security, and health. This month, let’s take extra time to acknowledge and appreciate the round-the-clock watchful care they provide. On behalf of our entire community, I extend a profound thank you to all our first responders for their service and sacrifice.
I’ll see you next month!
