The primary responsibility of the Traffic Team is to provide a safer city for all citizens through traffic enforcement, education, and innovation. The Traffic Team is comprised of officers trained in major traffic accident investigation, impaired driving investigation, and traffic enforcement of high volume pedestrian/vehicular commute locations. Other points of emphasis are responding to citizen requests for extra patrol of traffic related issues in residential areas.
Commonly referred to as Motors, the Traffic Team utilizes Police Motorcycles to enforce traffic laws and to focus on the most dangerous causes of fatal or serious injury accidents. Motors are also utilized for community and service oriented details. The Traffic Team is supervised by Patrol Division Commanders. The Traffic Team is currently focused on reducing fatal and serious injury motor vehicle accidents caused by impaired driving, distracted driving, and other motor vehicle related violations. For several years now the Orem Police Department has received a federal grant funded by the Utah Highway Safety Office to assist with intervention in, education about, and enforcement of distracted driving.
