K-9 Team

DSC_0048-2

The Orem Police Department K9 Team consists of five handlers, each with a dual purpose dog. The dogs are continually trained and annually certified in narcotics detection and suspect apprehension. All of the dogs are Belgium Malinois, owned and maintained at Department cost. At times the Department has received generous personal donations of money to help purchasing dogs. The dogs live at home with the handler and his family.

The Department K9 Team has proven successful in detecting the presence of drugs during traffic stops, search warrants and aiding in the apprehension of dangerous criminals hiding from police. Officers from other police agencies in Utah County periodically request an Orem K-9 Team to assist them in searching cars, homes, or buildings for drugs and suspects. Those requests are honored whenever possible as we realize drugs and the people who use them do not recognize city boundaries. Drugs used or sold in some other city today are easily drugs found in Orem tomorrow.

The K9 Team is also wonderful public relations tool as educational demonstrations for school, scout and church functions are performed. For more information about demonstrations contact the Department K9 Coordinator Lt. Jeff Bailey 801-229-7094 jlbailey@orem.org
