8 | These revenues are derived from transportation sales taxes received from the purchase of goods and certain services within the City of Orem. During the 2018 legislative session, Senate Bill 136 authorized counties to impose a quarter cent (0.25%) local option sales tax to be used for transportation needs. The Utah County Commission voted to implement the tax on December 18, 2018. The quarter cent (0.25%) transportation sales tax will be distributed to the City of Orem (0.10%), Utah County (0.05%), and the Utah Transit Authority (UTA, 0.10%).
These funds are administered by the Utah State Tax Commission and may only be used on certain permissible transportation expenditures as provided in Utah State Code (59-12-2219(13)). Permissible transportation expenditures include streets, sidewalks, curb and gutter, safety features, traffic signs and signals, street lighting, and trails for non-motorized vehicles connecting an origin with a destination. | ||||||||||||
