The City of Orem will become the first city in Utah County to build a Gold Star Family Memorial Monument. This monument is a tribute to families, relatives, and friends who sacrificed a loved one for our freedom. All donations from our supportive community will be dedicated to build the Gold Star Family Memorial Monument and the Freedom Plaza at the new Orem City Center.

What is a Gold Star Family?

Gold Star Family is a title reserved for families and relatives of military members who have died in the line of duty. The title is meant to honor the service member’s ultimate sacrifice and acknowledge the sacrifice of the service member’s family.

What is a Gold Star Family Memorial Monument?

The Gold Star Family Memorial Monument was founded by the Woody Williams Foundation. The monuments are dedicated to serve as a place of honor and remembrance  for Gold Star Families who sacrificed a loved one for our freedom.

The monuments are made of black granite. One side bears the words, “Gold Star Families Memorial Monument, a tribute to Gold Star Families and Relatives who sacrificed a Loved One for our Freedom”. The other side of the monument shows custom scenes on each of the four panels: Homeland, Family, Patriot, and Sacrifice. At the Center of the monument is a silhouette of a saluting soldier.

Why is the City of Orem and the community building this monument?

The City of Orem and its residents are proud patriots and supporters of those who have served in defense of our country, freedoms, and values. As Family City USA, the City of Orem is proud to work with the community to build a dedicated space to honor those heroes and the families who have sacrificed a loved one for our freedoms. With the construction of a new City Center and plaza, the City of Orem has a goal to create the greatest monument site in the country.
