Staff participated in the annual United Way Day of Caring on September 13. Two storage sheds were scraped and painted and playground games were painted.
Mattathias Westwood, Full-Time Assistant Librarian, has left for another position. Jaime Bartlett, who has been with the library for a number of years, and has worked in a variety of positions has been promoted to this Full-Time Assistant Librarian position.
Nathan Robison, Program Librarian, has worked with Matt Brown from Orem High School to coordinate a volunteer schedule that will bring Orem High School students into the new Makerspace sound booth to train patrons on the new equipment. The student volunteers will help patrons record music or other audio projects, but they will also create radio promos that will feature the library and other Makerspace services.
Staff facilitated the first NASA@MyLibrary activity of the school year, which brought the Orem Junior High Latinos in Action Students to Geneva Elementary School to teach the Boys and Girls Club students about planetary science and space exploration. These programs will continue on a monthly basis throughout the school year.
The Great American Read Literary Ball was held on September 14th. Patrons dressed up as their favorite character from one of the novels on PBS’s Great American Read list. The attendees enjoyed an evening of book-themed music, dancing, a costume contest and refreshments. The Great American Read events will continue through October. Brandon Sanderson will be presenting on Thursday, October 25th in the Storytelling Wing at 7:00 p.m.
