Projects in the Makerspace during the month of February have included: Patrons creating customized 3D-printed Valentine’s Day gifts and craft-cut cards for their classmates. Custom Orem Logo keychains for March’s 3D Printing Faire were printed. Eight OHS students were given a tour of the Makerspace and helped create various projects, including 3D prints, vinyl stickers and musical recordings.
The storytelling stage and puppet stage in the Kid Zone were carpeted last week. A big thank you to Facilities for helping with this project!
SCERA’s national award-winning youth musical theater team, Acting Up performed Alice in Wonderland to a crowd of 533 patrons.
Outreach staff and the Latinos in Action students at Orem Jr High School took the NASA@MyLibrary presentations to the students at Sharon Elementary on February 5. A group of 54 students learned about the size and temperature of the solar system.
The Black History Month series kicked off on February 11 with a performance by the Bonner Family, a talented group of vocalist and artists who celebrate gospel music and African –American heritage. There were 396 patrons in attendance.
CoderDojo meets each Wednesday afternoon. During the month of February about 20 kids attended each week.
Five students from Orem junior high schools spent a day job shadowing library staff on February 20. The students rotated through the various areas of the library including Circulation, Children’s, General Reference, Media and Mending/Processing.
Holly Grierson, Nathan Robison and Charlene Crozier met with Courtney Burns from UVU about partnering with the UVU Department of Ethics for programming related to the Appomattox project.
Ruth Covington, Meghan Flinders-Peay, Mindy Hale and Holly Grierson have worked together to update the Teen Zone of the OPL website.
