In honor of Orem’s 100th birthday, a Children’s Centennial Time Capsule event was held for the week of July 1–6. Patrons could check out a variety of time capsules that were put together from the past 10 decades to get an idea of what life was like in those decades. 315 people participated.
Summer Reading offered Escape through Time on the Orem Express July 15 through July 18. Families gathered their best train crew together to escape through time in the Summer Reading Escape Room.
The Summer Reading Finale was held on Tuesday, July 23rd with prizes, pizza and a movie.
The Utah Valley Library Directors’ luncheon was hosted by OPL along with a tour of the library on July 18th.
CoderDojo will be changing to Orem Library Minecraft Club. It will move from two hours, to one hour. It will continue on Wednesday afternoons and will feature the Minecraft Education Edition which has a lot of fun educational features that explore STEM subjects, as well as coding. It will be an open lab for kids to pursue their interests, have fun, collaborate, and be creative. The schedule will be as follows:
Wednesdays, from 2 to 3 pm in the Storytelling Wing (June through August)
Wednesdays, from 4 to 5 pm in the Storytelling Wing (September through May)
Study Room usage remained high, with 322 uses in July.
